Comment on St. Louis Music Funeral by Dennis Chilton http://www.troubleinrivercity.com/2008/11/20/st-louis-music-funeral/comment-page-1/#comment-38326 Dennis Chilton Tue, 03 Jan 2012 14:41:25 +0000 http://www.troubleinrivercity.com/?p=535#comment-38326 Was looking at some photos someone posted on Facebook and it led me here to this… I had tears in my eyes as I read some of these.. I had so many good memorys of SLME.. I cant think to call it SLME.. It was always CRATE to me.. Because that was all we made back in the beginning.. I still remember the first building and the very first CRATE we made and the first music store to sell them..
I had no idea that Loud Industries had purchased SLM. I thought Gene just moved everything over the “pond” to make them for less.. But to read that some other compnay just trashed us was more than I could take.. Its been awhile since Ive cryed..This really hurt.. Dad would have rolled over in his grave if he wasnt cremated.. (John Karpowicz)..
Ill have to look up LOUD and learn more about them.. I will certainly let them know how I feel, even now, about what those bastards did…If you knew my dad, I think you would be bothered even more about this.. He really loved his job and those that worked with him. And took alot of pride In crate, ampeg, and ac..
Hell I remember the day he told they were going to buyout Ampeg and go get all that stuff out east.. 3 Uhauls I think went to get what was left of Ampeg.. Anyway, Gene had the idea and John made it come true.. To those that had the pleasure to be apart of this, Thankyou. It is still the best job Ive ever had.. Dennis Chilton

I was always bummed that the record never saw the light of day, so it’s nice to see that situation rectified.

Comment on Stagger Lee by Charlie Kennedy http://www.troubleinrivercity.com/2008/11/25/stagger-lee/comment-page-1/#comment-28930 Charlie Kennedy Wed, 17 Nov 2010 18:58:35 +0000 http://www.troubleinrivercity.com/?p=530#comment-28930 I enjoyed reading the background on Stagger Lee. I am currently the Board President and Co-Head of Maintenance for Greenwood Cemetery in Hillsdale, MO. I am also a teacher in the Normandy School District at Normandy High School. I happened upon the 33 acre cemetery (only 5 acres clear) and its dismay in May of 2008. Since then, we now have 17 acres clear and are doing all kinds of exciting things to bring people back to visit their loved ones graves and possibly chip in and help our volunteer group with our battle. May 26th, 2009 we dedicated a headstone to Harriot Scott, Dred Scott’s wife are currently building a pavillion near it as well. Please take a trip over to Greenwood off St. Louis Ave. and Lucas & Hunt to see for yourself what we have gotten done.
Thanks,
Coach Kennedy

The Nevermores sounded great! The 75s too. Oh, and we made noise as well. Deluxe is definitely rising on my list of fav STL venues. I agree about the smoking thing – I didn’t smell it at all.

That’s right, wrestling… right around the corner from my parents’ house in East Carondelet, IL. The event is affiliated with the South Broadway Athletic Club, so it should be stupid-awesome.
