From Bob Thurmond:
Have you listened to 1430 AM KZQZ? They are a throwback to the (old) KXOK format and play obscure ’50s & ’60s stuff INCLUDING instrumentals. Steve “ELVIS” Davis does a lame show on Saturdays. Most other slots seemed filled with pre-recorded segments. Doctor Boogie plays some really good stuff, too. Look into this. I have heard some stuff on this station that I have not heard anywhere before.
I haven’t checked this out yet but I will now fo’ sure! An “oldies” station that actually plays REAL oldies? Sign me up!!

I am absolutely delighted listening to the Oldies that are being presented on 1430 AM KZQZ!
I was born in 1943 and grew up near Stuttgart, Germany (Sister City of St Louis!!!).
At age 14, I started listening to the American Forces Network and the music fascinated me, as it did many young Germans in those years. I also became personally acquainted with American soldiers stationed in the area, and had lots of fun hanging out with them. Their music had virtually become a part of my life.
I have been missing this particular “spirit” of the fifties and sixties which is especially expressed in the music of that era. Generally, very little has prevailed in this regard. It has been my painful observation, that especially with the beginning of the eighties, the music culture altogether seems to have lost it’s romantic flair – and it’s “innocence”.
My wife and I have been living in St. Louis for a few years but found no other radio station that has such a wide variety of this great music -Doo Wop, Rhythm &Blues, Rock’n Roll, etc..
Even as our generation will gradually pass away – I hope this music never dies, and that future generations might even re-discover and revive the “feeling” of those years and all that comes with it!
We have been wondering if there are any fifties/sixties fan clubs in the area?
Hey Walter, thanks for the comment. You might want to check out Dr. Jeff’s show, The Big Bang!, on KDHX Wednesday afternoons at 4pm. FM 88.1…
