Here’s a photo of the of the old Kopp farmhouse on Henry Ave. in Manchester as it stood circa 1893:
In the early 1860s, my great-great grandfather, Charles (Andreas Heinri Carl) Kopp, bought this house and 16 acres on Henry Ave. in Manchester, Missouri. This house, located at 650 Henry Ave., is still standing today, although it has been extensively remodeled (see below and more photos on Flickr). His daughter, Elizabeth, was born here in 1867. This picture was taken ca. 1893/1894.
Left to right: Charles, grand-daughter Annie (Anna) Schroeder, 2nd wife Clementina (nee Weidner), Elizabeth Schroeder (nee Kopp), and a boy that might be his stepson, Charles Steinmeier.
And here is a photo I took of the very same house earlier this summer:

I love those old farmhouses. It is amazing that such a big piece of your family’s history is still standing. I remember when they tore down my family’s farmhouse (my great-great grandparents) in Maryville, MO. We still have all of the fenceposts, windows and doors.
Where did you get the old photo? Library?
No, I got it from an older relative.
Wow, Kopper! You’re really lucky to have those photos. Got any more?
That’s really cool! The log cabin my grandmother was born in is still standing in a rural Missouri town (Rosebud area), but not inhabited. My brother took her there a year or so before she died.
Also, the “big house” her dad ended up building on the farm is still there, though not used. The present owners maintain and clean it for some reason, though. It was a pretty big house, too. Two stories, wrap around porches, interesting woodwork, etc.
I have that photograph! I am so glad you identified who is in it. Clementine (Hoch) Weidner is my great great grandmother. My grandmother (her grandaughter) had the middle name Clementine after her. The name is pronounced “teen” at the end.
my dad grew up in that town, from the 20’s on. He spoke of someone named “Mr. Cup” that owned a corner store. Maybe he was saying “Mr. Kopp”. Was there ever a relative of yours that owned a corner store in Manchester?
Thanks, Bob
Yep, that’s my family! Kopp was pronounced “Kupp” in those days (more like the German pronunciation), and in fact, my dad’s nickname growing up was “Kuppy.” The store you’re speaking of was probably owned by my great-grandfather, Charles H. Kopp. My dad was actually born in the back of that store in 1922. The building that housed the store was there until sometime in the ’70s, I think, when it was torn down to make way for a parking lot for a nearby car dealership (West County Volvo, I believe). Small world!
