I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. They pretty much sucked big time the first four months of the season. But then they came back after the All-Star Break and teased us with the best record in baseball there for, well, about a month or so… even coming within a half-game of 1st place at one point. Then the injuries started to really pile up, starting pitching went back to shit (after a remarkable turnaround where, for a couple of weeks, anyway, our starting pitching staff actually LOOKED LIKE a starting pitching staff), and then that fucking 2-bit tabloid in New York City (do we really need any more reasons to hate New York?) went and published a story about how Rick Ankiel had gotten a prescription for HGH (human growth hormone)… LEGALLY, mind you… 3 years ago when he was rehabbing after Tommy John surgery. And he hasn’t taken the stuff since. But the news obviously rattled him, as he’s been unproductive at the plate and screwing up routine plays in the outfield ever since the news broke. Fuck.
All I can say is it’s a good thing the hockey season is right around the corner…
